Τον Ιανουάριο θα ξεκινήσει δυναμικά το καινούργιο έτος με 3 εργαστήρια με θέμα "Τα 5 Koshas: Ένα ταξίδι στα επίπεδα της Ύπαρξής μας." Η εξερεύνση αυτή θα ολοκληρωθεί με ένα ολιστικό γιόγκα retreat στις 25-27 Φεβρουαρίου 2022.

Η πρώτη μας συνάντηση θα γίνει στις 15/01/22 στις 11:30 - 14:00 στο Yoga Heart στην Κηφισιά. Τότε θα ξεκινήσουμε με το πρώτο Kosha και το φυσικό επίπεδο, το Annamaya Kosha.

Όλες οι δραστηριότητες είναι για όλους ανεξαρτήτως προηγούμενης εμπειρίας με την γιόγκα. Είστε όλοι ευπρόσδεκτοι!

Με χαρά σας προσκαλώ σε τρία εργαστήρια (15/01, 29/01,12/02) όπου θα εξερευνήσουμε και θα εμβαθύνουμε στην έννοια των Πέντε Koshas ή αλλιώς των πέντε στρωμάτων της Ύπαρξής μας. Τα Koshas αποτελούν ένα ολιστικό μοντέλο προσέγγισης και κατανόησης των διασυνδέσεων μεταξύ του σώματος, της αναπνοής, του νου και του πνεύματος και του πώς δημιουργούν τις εμπειρίες μας.

I find that pain/suffering arises when we have expectations about ourselves and others and is enhanced when we identify ourselves with the experience of pain/suffering.

The most useful tool that yoga has offered me is the ability to differentiate between the fact/event and my interpretation of the fact/event. This distance allows space, clarity, and peace of mind. For example, a rainy day is what it is, but our interpretation of rain makes it a bad or a good day.

Reflect on your current conditions. What brings discomfort and how do you deal with it? Write down your thoughts, emotions any other thoughts about it and step back and reread your notes. Do you see any patterns with previous experiences? Can you learn something about yourself through these experiences?

Πρακτική αναπνοής για χαλάρωση και διαχείριση του πόνου.

Δίνοντας έμφαση στην εκπνοή σε επίπεδο φυσιολογίας επιτυγχάνεται η μείωση των καρδιακών παλμών και η ενεργοποίηση της παρασυμπαθητικής λειτουργίας του αυτόνομου νευρικού συστήματος.

Η ενεργοποίηση αυτή συνδέεται με τις λειτουργίες της πέψης και της αποκατάστασης διαφόρων σωματικών λειτουργιών.

Το πρωτόκολλο αναπνοής περιλαμβάνει:

1. Εισπνοή από την μύτη αργά και σταθερά. Φανταστείτε ότι μυρίζετε ένα λουλούδι. Δοκιμάστε αρχικά εισπνοή μέχρι το 3.

2. Εκπνοή από την μύτη μέχρι το 6. Αν η εκπνοή από την μύτη σας δυσκολεύει τότε δοκιμάστε να εκπνέετε με μισακλειστα χείλη σαν να σβήνετε τα κεράκια σε μια τούρτα ή σαν να θέλετε να κρυωσετε την σούπα.

Επαναλάβετε όσο σας είναι άνετο. Προσαρμόστε το εύρος αναπνοής ανάλογα με τις δυνατότητές σας. Απλώς διατηρείτε την εκπνοή μεγαλύτερη σε διάρκεια από την εισπνοή.

Our bodies are not just a vessel for our soul. Our bodies accumulate, store and communicate every thought, belief, and experience.

By getting in touch with these intimate expressions of energy, called sensations, you become more aware of your inner state of being. Thus, you can consciously transform your experiences.

Try this practice with me.

~Find a comfortable position.

~Relax the eyes and be aware of the breath without changing the way you breathe.

~Note how does your body feel. Just be open to whatever arises in your awereness.

~Can you notice any somatosensory input? Like warm, cold, heavy, light it can be anything. Where do you feel it on your body?

~Then stay with it, breathe into that feeling, sensation. See how it changes with each breath.

~You can even play with inviting the opposite sensation in you body. And shifting between these states.

~Then let it go. Take a few dynamic breaths and open up your eyes again.

"Physiological Sigh" is a breathing pattern and a natural stress-relieving mechanism that most mammals deploy when the levels of CO2 in their bloodstream are too high. As humans, we do that unconsciously in our sleep, when we cry and on any other occasion is needed, and is a very effective tool for when you are experiencing stress.

The advantage of this tool is that it takes no previous experience or effort and it happens in real-time with immediate effect on our physiology compared to other useful techniques like mindfulness.

How to practice it, take two inhales through the nose followed by an extended exhale through the mouth. Do it 2-3 times in a row the moment you feel stressed out and notice what happens.

How it works, in our lungs we have little sacks of air (called alveoli) which increase the volume of air that you can bring in. Those sacks collapse over time, and as a result, oxygen levels start to go down and carbon dioxide levels go up in the bloodstream and body signaling the stress response. By double inhaling, you expand these air sacks taking up more oxygen while slowly releasing the carbon dioxide in a long exhaled sigh out.

Water~

The healing power of water. We are made of water, we are conceived, raised and born in to water. Water has a soothing effect on the nervous system.

When you feel depressed and stucked in your body and mind try drinking water, take a bath, or go to nature touch the water, feel it on your skin, until you embody its qualities.

The water is cohesive, flows, removes obstacles, rejuvenates and heals.

Here are some Yoga practices that could help you regulate and sooth your nervous system.

1. Meditate on the sound of water.

2. Try the Apas Mudra ( gesture of the water element). Bring the tip of the thumb and the little finger together. Extend the rest of the fingers on a relaxed way.

3. Try the Jala Neti. This practice is a sinus flush.

~Self-love

Kind reminder to take care of yourself.

For years I believed that taking care of myself and following my pace it was a waste of time and totally nonproductive.

The reality is we live in a fast paced society with lots of challenges and responsibilities that most of the times we don't even realize how we got into this troubled situation in a first place.

I am here to remind myself and to you that taking your time and nurturing yourself in any way it is available to you at the moment is absolutely essential for your health and there is nothing to be ashamed of. Your self-worth can't be determined by external factors such as money, job, working hours, people, and any other role you are having in your life. Let go of the labels like good/bad, productive/nonproductive and allow yourself to just be.

So, take a moment to pause and think what is that you really need right now? What actions can you do to take care of yourself today?

Creative ways to get in touch with Trikonasana (Triangle Pose)

Remember that the Asana is just a framework that sets the foundation for you to experience yourself. In this context, Asana is not about performance or gymnastics is about exploration. So, stop trying to fit your body in a pose and rather focus on adjusting the Asana to fit your needs.

If you can't breathe properly in a yoga Asana that means you went too far with this. Here are some modification and suggestions for you to try and see what works for your body.

1. Use blocks
2. Allow your head to look down instead of up.
3. Internally rotate the back hip to accommodate your sacrum.
4. Stay on the ground with one leg straight and use a pillow for the knee.
5. Use a chair or a stool.
6. If you want more challenge, try lifting the front leg from the floor and move from the core.

The Swan method is the acronym for Strength, Weakness, Ambition, and Need. It is a form of meditation that helps a lot with introspection and self-awareness. With practice one can reach a level of self-acceptance that will normally lead to a more content and peaceful mind.

How to practice it.

1. Just find a moment of the day that you can have some quiet and space for yourself. Relax your body and allow the breath to be subtle and easy.

2. Inquire into what is your strength, weakness, ambition, and need. Take a moment to really reflect on each one of these questions. Note that the mind will wander as soon as you become aware of that just focus again on the question.

3. Write down the words, thoughts that stand out. Try not to overthink or being judgemental about what you discovered. Things change over time and that is ok.

4. Now that you are more clear on your inner state, ask yourself what actions can you take to take care of your needs and ambitions by making good use of your strength while working on transforming your limitations.

Try it for yourself and see what happens.

Freedom~

For me freedom is about acceptance and letting go whatever holding me back from being myself wholeheartedly.

The more you are doing the inner work cultivating compassion towards yourself accepting all the different aspects of who you are the easier will be to allow space for other people to do the same for themselves.

Try the following practice with me:

Find a comfortable position, it could be laying down, seating on a chair or standing.

Softly close your eyes.

Take a slow breath in and out.

Relax any tension in your body.

Now, ask yourself what would it feel like to be free?

Let your mind wander. Allow images, emotions, thoughts, sensations to arise in your awareness. Observe them without being judgemental.

And then let everything go.

Inhale gently and exhale slowly.

Open up your eyes.

Viveka is the ability to obtain sharp perceptions and to judge well. Viveka is a fundamental element of yoga practice because it enables us to discriminate between the real and the ureal, between our conditioning and the connection to our core values and self.

By cultivating viveka you become empowered and enhance your wisdom and trust in yourself. I like to see viveka as an enquiry into my truth. Here I share some tips for enhancing your intuition.

~ Focus on asking yourself sincere questions. (This can be your practice for a long time and that’s absolutely fine!)
~ Don’t look for answers just let all of your thoughts, emotions and feelings arise without judgement.
~ Notice what thoughts, emotion, feeling or even sensations are persistent and keep coming up.
~ Keep practicing non-judgement and non-resistance to whatever arises in your awareness.
~Listen more, talk less.

Τόλμησα να βγάλω ένα ενδεικτικό πρόγραμμα ομαδικών μαθημάτων για την περίοδο που μας έρχεται ξεκινώντας από την Δευτέρα 13/09. Ωστόσο, επειδή ακόμα επιστρέφει κόσμος ίσως αυτό να αλλάξει από Οκτώβριο.

Όπως βλέπετε έχει προστεθεί ένα μάθημα Αναπνοής και Διαλογισμού και ένα Restorative. Τα Restorative μαθήματα είναι ιδανικά για ανθρώπους με μυσοκελετικό πόνο, χρόνιο πόνο και άγχος. Το μάθημα Αναπνοή & Διαλογισμός είναι όπως η γλώσσα και τα μαθηματικά στο σχολείο, εννοείται ότι θα προτιμούσες να κάνεις γυμναστική αλλά αποτελεί την βάση για να καταφέρεις οτιδήποτε στην ζωή σου.

Embracing Grief

Grief can be a spiritual cleansing and is an absolutely essential coping mechanism for processing feelings such as loss, bitterness, etc. I understand that what I am going to share in this post may not resonate with you at the moment of grief but in my opinion sooner or later you should let the feelings, emotions, and sensations arise and be felt at their fullest in order for you to be able to move forward in your life.

This method is called RAIN and is created by Tara Brach who is a renowned clinical psychologist and meditation teacher.

What does RAIN stand for?

R- Recognise: The first step is to recognize what is going on within you right now. Notice what thoughts, emotions, behaviours or physical sensations arise within you. What is the story that your mind is telling you? Do you feel overwhelmed and confused by the situation? Do you feel anger, resentment, numb or despair? Mentally note the experience as it is felt, I feel hopeless, but avoid labeling your experience as "bad" or "good".

A - Allow: Next step is to allow the experience to be there. Even though you can feel the pain, you let it be with you and move through your body and that is ok. Breathe and each time you exhale you might want to repeat "I allow this".

I - Investigate: Now be more aware of the physical experience of grief. You move your attention from your mind to your body. Notice and be curious about the somatic sensations. Is there pain, numbness, pressure, aching? Any other sensations like dryness in the throat, the pounding of the heart. Sensations are the embodiment of emotions.

N - Nurture: The last step is nurturing yourself through the experience. Invite the feeling, emotion, belief, or physical sensation and treat them as if they were your friend. What do you need? Can you bring loving-kindness to your experience of grief? Can you relax and be gentle with yourself as you undergo this process? Or you might want to comfort your pain by hugging yourself. Inquire into what do you need right now but in a compassionate way.

~ Ανασυγκρότηση & Επανασύνδεση

Αγαπημένοι μαθητές και φίλοι καθώς σιγά σιγά οδεύομε προς το τέλος του καλοκαιριού είπα να σας ενημερώσω για τις προθέσεις μου. Αρχικά, ελπίζω να βρήκατε χώρο και χρόνο να συνδεθείτε με ότι σας δίνει χαρά και να αφομοιώσατε τις εμπειρίες και τα βιώματα ενός ιδιαίτερου χειμώνα αλλά και καλοκαιριού.

Έτσι, από τις 30 Αυγούστου θα ανασυγκροτήσουμε τις δυνάμεις μας και θα επανασυνδεθούμε. Όπως και πέρυσι θα προσφέρω ομαδικά μαθήματα γιόγκα και ατομικές συνεδρίες είτε διαδικτυακά είτε διά ζώσης. Και για όσους με ρωτάτε εάν θα διδάξω σε κάποιο στούντιο, υπάρχουν κάποιες συζητήσεις και θα σας ενημερώσω όταν έχω κάτι συγκεκριμένο.

Αναλυτικότερα, τι θα περιλαμβάνει η χρονιά που μας έρχεται:

~ Θα προσφέρω ομαδικά μαθήματα online και για μικρές ομάδες μέχρι τρία άτομα διά ζώσης στον χώρο μου κατόπιν συνεννόησης.

~ Τα ατομικά μαθήματα και συνεδρίες θα συνεχιστούν ανάλογα με τις ανάγκες σας είτε διά ζώσης είτε online.

~ Εκτός από τα μαθήματα Vinyasa και Hatha Yoga θα καθιερώσω και ένα με δύο μαθήματα την εβδομάδα Restorative Yoga (γιατί το νευρικό μας σύστημα παραπαίει εδώ και καιρό). Τα μαθήματα αυτά είναι ιδανικά για την διαχείρηση μυοσκελετικών θεμάτων, του χρόνιου πόνου και του άγχους. Ο αριθμός των μαθημάτων θα εξαρτηθεί από την εκδήλωση ενδιαφέροντος.

Για όσους δεν έχουν κάνει πρακτική μαζί μου, ο τρόπος που διδάσκω ενσωματώνει πρακτικές και πληροφορίες τόσο από την παράδοση της γιόγκα όσο και από την νευροεπιστήμη και την λειτουργική κίνηση. Η πρόθεσή μου είναι να σας υποστηρίξω στο προσωπικό ταξίδι σας στην διερεύνηση του εαυτού σας χρησιμοποιώντας ένα εύρος εργαλείων και πρακτικών.

Παρατηρώντας την φύση μπορούμε πραγματικά να αντλήσουμε έμπνευση για την ζωή μας.

Για παράδειγμα, αυτός ο βράχος στέκεται ακλόνητος μπροστά στα κύματα επιτρέποντάς τους να τον σμιλευουν κατά πώς θέλουν. Αυτός ο βράχος αλλάζει μορφή και υφή κάθε στιγμή αδιαμαρτύρητα γιατί αυτός είναι ότι ρόλος του, να είναι βράχος και να μετασχηματίζεται ταυτόχρονα. Ο βράχος είναι αυτό που είναι τίποτα περισσότερο και τίποτα λιγότερο.

Παρατηρώντας αυτόν τον βράχο και την σχέση του με το νερό στοχαζόμουν πόσο απελευθερωτικό είναι να αποδέχεσαι αυτό που πραγματικά είσαι στον πυρήνα της ύπαρξής σου χωρίς αντίσταση. Ο επόμενος συνειρμός μου ήταν το πώς συνδέεται αυτό με το Dharma, όπου στην γιόγκα θεωρείται ο σκοπός/ρόλος που προσδίδει/φέρει ο κάθε άνθρωπος στην ζωή του αλλά και το κατά πόσο είμαστε εναρμονισμένοι με το Dharma μας.

Textures~

I like experimenting with 5 senses. The sense of touch is one of my favourite. I close my eyes and then I experience all the sensations on my skin like textures, temperature, pressure everything.

I find that this mindfulness practice really grounds me and it starts with my body.

Harmony~

Being in nature feels like home. A safe place to just be with no obligations, expectations, to-do lists, etc.

I sat by Neda river fully aware of the external and internal environment, the sound of the river flowing heavily and fiercely, the crickets and birds, the cold sensation on my skin from the water and the rocks, the soft beating of my heart, and the noise that people make in the background.

The river reminds me to let go of my need to control life and instead indulge myself in the mystic experience of just be in harmony with what it is.

Suffering~

Suffering is the resistance to what it is.

I'm wondering how would it feel if we could be like the wind, light, soft, agile, spacious. How would it feel if we could hold our suffering lightly allowing space for emotions and feelings to arise and then let them go freely like the ever-changing nature of wind?

Take a conscious breath in and let it be.
Breathe out and let it go.

Transformation~

We tend to perceive and interpret the physical reality through the limiting lenses of our sense organs. But the truth is there is no beginning nor end. There is constant change and transformation from one form to another and even though it may look different its essence is the same.

Allow transformation to take place, there is always beauty in life.
